Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that I love the fact that today is National Drink Wine Day! I'm 110% in. #winezday a day early - heck ya! Cheers.
Did you know:
- California, New York, and Florida lead the United States in wine consumption.
- California is the fourth-largest wine producer in the world, after France, Italy, and Spain.
- The worst place to store wine is usually in the kitchen because it is typically too warm to store wine safely. Refrigerators are not satisfactory for storing wine either. Even at their warmest setting, they’re too cold.
- One ton of grapes makes about 60 cases of wine, or 720 bottles. One bottle of wine contains about 2.8 pounds of grapes.
In my glass tonight:
Apothic Red, made in Modesto, California. I was recently introduced to this wine. It has a dramatic red and black label along with an affordable price tag ($10.00 range). Experimenting more with red wines, I felt it was the prefect night to give it a try. I love it and so glad I gave it a whirl. It's full and extremely smooth. Black cherries are the dominant flavor but you may find additional flavors such as vanilla, chocolate or mocha. I did not have any cheese on hand, but I bet this would pair perfectly with a gouda or cheddar cheese plate appetizer and also along with meat and pasta dishes.
In other news, I have a healthy addiction to cocktail napkins .. no shame here.
